How High Are Your Standards?

This is part 3 of 3 of a 3-part series on Taking Control Of Your Business Using The 3-Step TMI System. To recap, TMI is:

  1. Track
  2. Measure
  3. Improve

Your systems and processes are an expression of your company’s standards. What do they say about your company? Do they say a little or a lot?

The longer you’re in business the higher your standards should be because you should always strive to keep higher and higher standards. This brings us to Part III of the 3-Part TMI System.

Part III: Improve – using the data you have now tracked (Part I) and measured (Part II) is the final step in the TMI System. Use the data to make sound decisions for improving the numbers in any area of your business. Make changes or perform small tests to see if the number improve as a results. Doing this over and over again will create a momentum and a compounding of results that will make you feel more in control of your business than you ever have before.

What gets measured gets improved.”

Peter Drucker

I’m leading you to higher standards in your business because I have led myself to higher standards in my business. This makes me qualified. I am qualified to lead you through the unknown because I have led myself through the unknown and now the unknown is known to me.

I have really high standards for you and I believe you can achieve them. I want the best for you and the best requires high standards.

The gold standard is your standard. You may not feel that you can live the gold standard right now and that’s OK. It’s a journey. I haven’t always been there and there are still areas of my life that are not yet up to the gold standard. But because I have been able to do this in some areas of my life I know the process. I know how it works. I know what to do. And now you will know what to do too.

Do not mistakenly think you need to feel confident to move forward. You just move forward without the confidence. Does it make it scarier? Yes it does. That’s the way life works. We don’t always get a map but if we’re lucky we get a guy or a gal who has a map.

Do not mistakenly think you need a detailed plan to move forward. You just move forward without a detailed plan. It can actually be better not to plan too much. There is a reason they say, “the devil is in the details”. Leave the devil out by not thinking you have to figure everything out right away. Leave the devil out by not thinking you can’t take small steps forward.

Develop high standards over time by continuing to track, measure, and improve ‘how we do things here’. You’ll reach the gold standard this way and your employees will learn to develop high standards along the way as well… bonus!

It can be difficult to see improvements without taking the first 2 steps. Following the TMI System is a simple and effective way to gain insight, make informed decisions, and take control of your business.
